The superhero movie Aquaman has officially joined the billion-dollar club at the box office.
The DC superhero pic from Warner Bros. has tallied worldwide box office gross of $1,020,261,781 as of January 12, 2019. About 72% of the gross box office receipts came from non-US countries. It is the first DC Comics title to cross $1 billion in ticket sales since Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.
The film, which starred Jason Momoa and Amber Heard, opened on December 21,
Director James Wan, whose 2015 film ‘Furious 7’ made it to the billion-dollar club, said in a statement:
“Firstly, massive LOVE and THANK YOU to the fans and audiences around the world. I’ll forever be indebted to Jason for turning Aquaman into one of the coolest, cinematic superheroes ever, and becoming the gold standard for this character for generations to come.”
Jason Momoa on Instagram thanked the fans and everyone who had a hand in making the movie:
